Project by PowerMarket
PowerMarket for Smart Cities and Smart Grids is a project developed by PowerMarket, a start-up based in Oxford, UK.
Considering that 15% of the world’s countries are imposing strict carbon dioxide emission targets and, consequently, are investing in solar energy, PowerMarket has developed a centralized platform capable of locating, thanks to the use of satellite data, the best sites for solar energy systems by identifying their financial and environmental impact.
This solution, aimed at Smart Cities and Smart Grids, is aimed on the one hand at supporting cities, governments, network operators, and utilities to optimize network management and energy trading; on the other, to help political representatives and real estate managers to identify the best sites for the installation of solar energy systems.
PowerMarket is one of the companies included in the “Techstars Smart Mobility Accelerator”, a three-year acceleration program in the Smart Mobility sector supported by Techstars, Compagnia di San Paolo, Fondazione CRT, and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center. Within this program, PowerMarket will carry out a test divided into two phases:
- mapping, using SAT data, of the entire city territory;
- testing of the PowerMarket platform to evaluate the technical and economic advantages of installing photovoltaic systems on a selected sample of public buildings or buildings owned by IREN Spa in Turin.
During the testing phase, the proponent will be supported by IREN Spa, which manages public buildings and related electrical systems in Turin and is a Partner of Turin City Lab.
